Symptom Management / Constipation

  • Gradual increase of fibre in the diet with edequate fluid intake ( 1.5l /per day )
  • Probiotics may help with stool consistency and regularity
  • Food sources high in fibre : whole fruits and vegetables, beans, legumes, whole grains, oat products
  • Natural laxatives : prunes , licorice .
  • Foods high in probiotics most commonly yogut may also be added to cheese , milk juices, cereals, ice cream

(probiotics such as Lactobacillus will be listed in the indgredients lists)

Difficulty Chewing Swallowing

  • Soft, moist foods tend to be easier to chew and swallow
  • Try cutting up food into small pieces
  • Take time to eat at meal times and chew food thoroughly
  • Avoid dry cereals, crackers, chips, crumbly cakes, muffins and whole nuts, or

sticky foods such as bread, caramel, fudge, dry mashed potatoes

Nausea Vomiting

  • Take medications with meals or snacks
  • Small frequent meals
  • Eat bland foods
  • Avoid or limit acidie, spicy foods or foods with strong odours (cool foods

have less odour )

  • Avoid high fat food
  • Use gingerale, ginger chews or ginger tea to manage nausea

Low appetite

  • Small, frequent meals
  • Eat your favourite foods
  • Use high calorie beverages (Boost, Ensure, 2% or homo milk , chocolate milk,

coconut milk)

Orthostatic Hypotension ( blood pressure on standing )

  • Increase sodium intake.
  • May need to reduce fluid intake . Consult your doctor.

Dyskinesia (Tremorc) and Fatigue

  • Pre-cutting foods or pre-preparing meals
  • Take additional time to eat - make the experience enjoyable
  • Use finger foods
  • Use local meal seruices - Appetito, Just Jeffs, Thyme to Go


  • There is no evidence to recommend a need for supplementation including CoQ10, Creatine,

Vitamin E or any other herbal supplements for the management or prevention of Parkinson's Disease.

Caution is warned with their use - If you do take supplements, speak to your pharmacist to make sure they do not interact with your medications.
